Haley Glennie Smith and husband and wife duo Ally Mcerlaine and Shelly Poole.

Red Sky July came together to make music they love without boundaries or expectations. It was set to be a ‘soul food’ side project, however one day a week soon became seven and a group of songs with a hazy, alt country, Americana inflected sound soon found their way into shaping and becoming a whole new venture. Prior to the band entering the studio to record their début album however, the entire projectbase_page_xerypit1 was put on standby as Ally suffered a major brain aneurysm and was in a critical state for over a year. Red Sky July put the album on hold for Ally to concentrate on recovering – which he did – defying all the odds stacked against him. The band reconvened to record the album, managing to capture a raw and mesmerizing sound in the studio, which translated beautifully in the recordings. Upon release of their self-titled début album and throughout 2012 Red Sky July garnered much critical acclaim and media support.

2013 marked a return to the live scene for the band where as well as performing their own headline, UK wide tour (including an appearance at one of the country’s biggest music festivals T in the Park), Red Sky July also enjoyed guest slots on tour with the likes of Deacon Blue, James Walsh (Starsailor) and Jools Holland including his sold out performance at the Royal Albert Hall in London.

Their achievements so far were recognised at the Scottish Music Awards, where Red Sky July performed live and were presented with a prestigious Tartan Clef award by Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy. Red Sky July returned to the studio to record their highly anticipated follow up album entitled ‘Shadowbirds’ which was released in September 2014, accompanied once again by outstanding reviews, airplay and appearances on the likes of Radio 2, Radio London, Radio Scotland, Bauer Radio etc. The album made an immediate impact, entering the official UK charts country album chart at number 3. With guest appearances under their belt already this year with influential Nashville singer/songwriter Beth Nielsen Chapman and the legendary Steve Earle, Red Sky July hit the road during October, November and December with their own headlining tour as well as appearing as special guests of both multi-award winning Sheryl Crow and the renowned 10cc on their respective UK tours.

Summer 2014 Red Sky July return with Lay Down Your Love the first single from new album Shadowbirds (released in Sept 14'). Lay Down Your Love is Shelly explains “about asking for a break when you’ve really had as much as you can take...Does it always have to be the hard way?” and is a perfect appetiser for ‘Shadowbirds’.

2015 will see the band returning to the studio to record their hugely anticipated third album, whilst continuing to delight fans with their intimate live performances.

Red Sky July released their third album ‘The Truth and The Lie’ in March 2016. Recorded in their own studio, the band were joined by Grammy nominated, Nashville based singer songwriter Beth Nielsen Chapman (Elton John, Neil Diamond, Willie Nelson). On release the album debuted in the top 3 of the Official UK Country Charts and garnered rave reviews and airplay. Renowned for Sound heralded it as “a modern country masterpiece.” The album has received critical acclaim across the board from the likes of The Guardian, Maverick Magazine, Guitarist, Daily Express, R2 and BBC Radio 2 to name but a few.
